As far as Davy Jones was concerned, these 'engines' were silent and cold, and they weren't trying to commandeer this ship, merely loot it. Thus he had absolutely no qualms about breaking out the powder. He stepped into the room and up onto the railing before jumping onto one of the engines, they were great things, with their own little walkways just short of the top for engineers and crew to access if needed. It was right onto one of these that Jones jumped onto, his handaxe being brought around, a brutal strike into one of the infernal apes, blade biting into skull with a brutal sound. A fierce kick followed this up to knock the thing back, before the captain turned, his handcannon leveled and releasing another furious roar as another was sent flying off the railing of the engine.
"Hah, that little guitar of yours must be quite the powerhouse if you're not going to be using it in here!" Jones cackled as he saw Rin taking a stance. "Still though, I admire your moxie!" The handcannon was placed in its holster, the axe at his hip, and Jones leaped up to the top of the engine, a second platform was up here too, and it gave him a fine view of the battlefield, and of where Rin was standing guard. Jones didn't draw his handcannon, but the more ordinary pistols, 'ordinary'.
Many people wondered how in olden times people handled the long reload times of such weapons, measuring powder, putting in the shot. The answer was simple, it was to carry a lot more than just one pistol. Jones in fact had around twenty of such secreted around his person and was experienced in rapidly drawing, shooting, dropping, and then drawing another! He was going to unleash an absolute hail of fire upon the apes, shooting, pivoting, his hands moving as fast as they could to draw fresh pistols and unload again. He'd turn and throw a shot pistol, rushing through the air to smack an ape squarely in its face as it tried to leap upon him, already drawing a new one to fire at another foe!
As long as Rin could maintain his position there, it was only a matter of time before the two wiped the apes out, and the ringing echo of gunfire could begin to fade.

Rin waded through the devils crowding the floorspace as a hurricane of fists, elbows, and kicks. Just as well, because all he had going for him was the stunning force and perseverance of such. There were more than a few dire occasions where a blow hadn't done as much damage as was expected, or one body dropped to reveal two more right behind it moving in for the kill. Davy's fire support was a godsend in those times, picking off the most troublesome devils so Rin could free himself and begin the assault anew. The duo's brazen approach turned the room into a veritable mosh pit. Especially from Rin's point of view, where every other second was spent pulling himself out of a swell of bodies. But threatening to swallow him up seemed to be the most they could accomplish. Their numbers were beginning to thin long before he got tired. When the volley of shots finally did die down, Rin was still standing. With a bloodied lip and other gashes dribbling fresh blood, but mostly fussing with his t-shirt, which had torn at the collar down to his mid-torso.
"Maybe I should have used my guitar anyway," he responded to Davy after that long while of moshing. "That got pretty close a few times. Thank you.'

These creatures had the advantage, but Jones knew when a creature had the strength to match its appearance and these little monkeys weren't it. The sound of black powder igniting filled the engine room as the old captain danced about. Guns were notoriously less effective on devils than they should be. Someone could shoot Jones in the head, and while it'd hurt, it wouldn't kill him (depending on the gun perhaps). The same applied to these apes, but Jones wasn't just shooting them once.
Those pistols vanished shortly after being dropped, only to convenient reappear on his person, freshly loaded with shot and powder, modified to match with modern day firearms to be drawn and fired again! With Rin helping with his own ferocious and downright impressive melee the two would tear through the devilish primates and whittle their numbers down, until at last, the blood covered engine room was silent, the smoke of shot filling the air with a stench that was likely preferable to whatever the blood of these creatures smelled like.
"Perhaps ye should have. I've met some tough humans, but you don't often compare to us devils, still if that thing does pack a punch perhaps better to have not taken a risk eh? Besides, that was a hell of a show! I'd hate to be up against you in a barroom brawl, hahaha! Now, how's the damage? Anything serious? I won't be havin' a guest of me own ship dyin' while I still breathe."

Davy's remark earned a dry chuckle. The statement sent Rin a decade back in time, when getting wailed on by some angry drunk was the most excitement he could expect in a weeks time. This was much worse than that by far, but those were much simpler times. Odd he was looking back on that as a fondly held childhood memory. Rin reminisced while giving himself a check-up at Davy's behest. "I may have cracked some ribs," he said gingerly tracing the afflicted area. "I can breathe just fine though so nothing too serious. I'll just have some ugly bruising after all this is over." With all said and done, Rin turned his guitar back around to his chest. "I'll go back to playing the ranged game for now. I'm in bad enough shape without trying to fistfight that big devil up top." He kicked past whatever remained of the devil corpses while looking for another path through the room, idly tuning his guitar in preparation while doing so.

"Aye, ye leave brawlin' with the big beastie to me." Jones nodded in confirmation, finding a way out of the engine room. They'd see other signs of what had happened to the crew. Not pleasant, Jones didn't spend much time lingering over the few scenes of carnage. Fortunately ships like this had a standardized design, as long as you knew how to read the signage and how they were designed, making one's way to the bridge from any point wasn't hard.
There were a few more of those small apes, but they were easily shot down or cleaved by Jones leading the way. They really had taken out the bulk of them. Soon they were going up consistently, no signs of violence here...except once on the bridge? It was obvious from the broken window, and the glass all over that this must have been where it started. That great beastie outside must have smashed right through to try and grab someone inside, or had. They could see it out the window too if they looked, perched on top of the massive cargo crates, roaming around them. So many and so tightly packed that it might as well have just been a floor.
"And there's the beastie. Ya ready? Once we head up on top of the bridge ain' nothin' left for it but to slay the cur. So if ye need a moment best take it now."
