Character Description
Demonic Physical Appearance:
In her natural form Letale is a demon that stands just over six foot, putting her on the smaller side compared to some of the absolute goliaths that inhabit Hell, but at least granting her some physical benefit over many humans, and on par with others. Her skin is iridescent in tone, often milky white or grey-looking until it hits the right angle at which point it takes on a shimmer akin to an opal.
Her face is somewhat human in appearance with a sharp nose, bright blue eyes with vertical-slit pupils and a mouth full of sharpened teeth, but that is generally where the similarities end. Her legs are digitigrade and end in wicked talons akin to a raptor’s and her fingers are clawed to match. They might make decent enough weapons in their own right, but Letale rarely utilises them for such: primarily they are for climbing.
Another feature that sets her apart from humans is her long tail. Along her back is a set of spined fins that continue down its length and end in a small flair. This loans her a look akin to a lizard, or perhaps a fish, although Letale cannot claim to be a fan of swimming.
Human Physical Appearance:
As a human, Letale appears as a young woman about her mid-twenties. She is 5’8”, making her taller than average, and has a lithe build that mimics her demonic form with long limbs and an almost reptilian or feline manner of posture. With pale skin and platinum blonde hair which she prefers to keep as a short pixie cut, Letale favours clothing that is form-fitting and easy to move in: usually athletic wear of some description, and matching boots or running shoes.
Letale dislikes shapeshifting into her more human form and only does so when needed, missing her tail, claws and talons which she uses for scaling. As such, she usually radiates an aura of discomfort and tends to be easily startled, as she is nearly always in a heightened state of alert. Just in case.
In this body, the only real thing that she keeps from her devil form is her eye colour, retaining her bright, electric blue hues even if her pupils return to standard, round, human ones.
Personality:
First and foremost Letale is driven by cautious curiousity. She loves learning new things and could spend decades holed up in a particularly good library, demonic or human. Nothing is capable of getting Letale on someone’s side like dangling a particularly rare tome or ancient weapon or magical tablet in front of her face. It’s not that she wants to use them, per se. She just wants to hold them and know about them and appreciate them, regardless of origin and design.
However, at the same time, she is very aware that many of the things she covets are dangerous or held by dangerous people. Subsequently, she has developed a healthy fear of pretty much everything up to her own shadow, having gained most of her knowledge and worldly goods by uhh…stealing them when polite requests do not go as intended.
Aside from this, Letale would perhaps be considered relatively kind, for a demon. She could not be described as compassionate or loyal, and her drive and motivations are purely selfish, but she is not an overtly hostile individual. In fact, Letale views humans and devils as on similar standing and treats them the same, whether she is interested in an individual or not, but she has no one she would term a friend or companion.
She does, however, have a long list of people she’s thieved from. On both sides of the Veil.
Backstory
Letale was created by a much more powerful demon named Matazar. Matazar had been around for several hundred years by the time of her conception, and he had spent most of that locked in a rivalry with another demon, Akarra. After one particularly fateful battle between the pair, Akarra magically employed a pocket dimension of her own design and trapped Matazar there. Whilst he could expand and warp it somewhat, he unfortunately discovered that he could not escape his new home without her death, which angered him into a violent rage.
Occasionally other demons would stumble into his domain and Matazar would fashion them a deal to obtain items in exchange for fractions of his power. Through these brief interludes he began to wonder about the knowledge required to escape permanently, as these demons could more or less visit by their own will, immune to the magic which held himself bound. Eventually, this resulted in the creation of Letale and her nineteen other identical siblings: Matazar’s intention was to use them as proxies to freely travel realms and bring him the supplies and such that he would need for his freedom.
At first, none of the newly crafted demons had names. He simply referred to them as ‘The Pack’. But Letale was the last of the batch that he had made, and she exhibited a natural curiousity that he found somewhat endearing, often coming and spending time with him, or simply observing what he was doing or making. Enjoying her company much in the same way a master might enjoy time with a particularly affectionate dog, he named her Letale and taught her to speak and to read.
None of her other siblings seemed to mind that she was a favourite. Perhaps they did not possess the same mental faculties as she did. Who knew? Not Letale, and not Matazar. It was beside the point anyway.
With Letale now physically stronger and more intelligent than her peers, Matazar began giving her more complex tasks and sending her out on longer and more dangerous missions. One day, he discovered the existence of a weapon created to ‘cut anything’. Believing that perhaps this blade could cut him out of his now very comfortable jail, Matazar sent Letale to retrieve the Confessione Argento.
It was an easy steal for her. Perhaps so easy that she did not realise how many eyes were upon her person in the moment. By the time she returned home, spear in arm, it was too late: Akarra had laid the perfect bait, laid waste to her siblings and finally murdered Matazar for good. All she had really wanted was for Letale to be out of the way, and for the spear to be hers when she returned.
Horrified, Letale refused Akarra’s request for the weapon in exchange for her own life and used it to escape Akarra’s angry onslaught that followed. With Matazar dead, however, the much more powerful demon was sated and did not pursue. What was one little demon with a spear, after all? She was inconsequential, and now she had everything else that Matazar had.
Since then Letale has vowed to serve no man or demon. She enjoys her own interests and moves between the human and demonic world whenever she can, hunting down all the things that spark her eagerness and removing whatever or whomever stands in her way.
Traits
Shape-shifting
Through the application of Transmutation magic, combined with the power of your imagination, you are capable of transforming your entire body into something else or someone else. This Trait allows you to have one additional physical appearance other than your default appearance.
Inhuman Swiftness
Thanks to your biology or through acceleration magic, your body can run much faster than the average. You can run, jump, and generally move around much more swiftly than your peers; this, however, doesn't mean that your perception is heightened as well: even if you can move out of the way very quickly, it doesn't matter if your reaction times aren't as quick.
Equipment
Name: Confessione Argento.
Description: Letale’s modular spear, stolen from its original creator in Hell whose name she does not remember. It is a flexible weapon for one who tends to be flexible in combat, it can extend itself and bend by being broken down into pieces which are connected by a chain. The chain runs along and inside the spear’s length and ends in a heavy ball that acts as a counterweight.
Upgrade Points: 1.
Upgrades:
Sever Secare: The Argento’s blade is magically enhanced to sharpen it beyond what is possible with normal blacksmithing techniques. This ensures that Letale can cut through bone and some demonic natural armour as required, as well as pierce less supernatural protective gear. This only works to a point (pun intended), however. Thicker materials, or those that also have magic woven into them, still require work.
Combat Foci
Name: Nightmare Acrobazia.
Description: Letale can hardly claim to be the world’s physically strongest or biggest demon on either side of the Veil. Subsequently, with a lack of stamina and strength in her form, she relies on speed and agility to strike hard and fast, preferring to finish fights quickly and efficiently rather than get locked into a prolonged battle that she will inevitably lose. If this is not possible, she has a number of tricks up her sleeve to escape with. After all, she can always reassess from safety.
Rank: D.
Aspects: 0.
Techniques
Name: Decretum Disengage.
Description: Knowing when to quit in order to stay alive is a good thing, actually, and if her opponent isn’t going to back down, Letale will. Identifying the quickest avenue of escape, Letale will use her physical form to feint and then make her departure with an inhuman burst of speed. She isn’t a sore loser, but at least she’s a fast one.
Focus: Nightmare Acrobazia.
